LDS Jesus the same Jesus as Christians? No. Even Gordon Hinckley knew that Christians and Mormons do not believe in the same Jesus.
“In bearing testimony of Jesus Christ, President Hinckley spoke of those outside the Church who say Latter-day Saints ‘do not believe in the traditional Christ.’ ‘No, I don’t. The traditional Christ of whom they speak is not the Christ of whom I speak.'” (LDS Church News June 20, 1998).
LDS Mary a virgin? No. Heber Kimball said “In relation to the way in which I look upon the works of God and his creatures, I will say that I was naturally begotten; so was my father, and also my saviour Jesus Christ. According to the Scriptures, he is the first begotten of his father in the flesh, and there was nothing unnatural about it.” (Journal of Discourses, v. 8, p.211). A naturally begotten Jesus is the opposite of supernaturally begotten of a Virgin. LDS teaching denies the virgin birth
LDS God eternally God? No.Joseph Smith taught that God has not always been God eternally God. “God himself was once as we are now, and is an exalted man, and sits enthroned in yonder heavens… it is necessary that we should understand the character and being of God, and how he came to be so; for I am going to tell you how God came to be God. We have imagined and supposed that God was God from all eternity, I will refute that idea, and will take away and do away the veil, so that you may see.” (Journal of Discourses, vol. 6, p. 3). A god who was once a man is the opposite of the eternal God who has always been God and who has never not been God. LDS teaching denies the eternality of God.
LDS Church just one of many Christian churches? No. About the Mormon church, past LDS President, Ezra Taft Benson, said: “This is not just another Church. This is not just one of a family of Christian churches. This is the Church and kingdom of God, the only true Church upon the face of the earth . . . (Teachings of Ezra Taft Benson, pp. 164-165). The LDS Church denies that any other church is a true church when in fact they are a false one.
Al Mohler was asked “Is Mormonism just a distinctive denomination of Christianity?” He answered it this way:
“The answer to that question is definitive. Mormonism does not claim to be just another denomination of Christianity. To the contrary, the central claim of Mormonism is that Christianity was corrupt and incomplete until the restoration of the faith with the advent of the Latter-Day Saints and their scripture, The Book of Mormon. Thus, it is just a matter of intellectual honesty to take Joseph Smith, the founder of Mormonism, at his word when he claimed that true Christianity did not exist from the time of the Apostles until the reestablishment of the Aaronic and Melchizedek priesthoods on May 15, 1829.”
